Carol Topolski has an embarrassingly long CV, a condensed version of which would include: working on the Woodstock Festival, reading for the Bar, being a Probation Officer, setting up and running a Women’s Refuge and Rape Crisis Centre, ditto an NHS psychotherapy service for women in a Brixton council flat, censoring films for the BBFC and, finally, writing novels.

Her first novel, Monster Love, was longlisted for the Orange Prize and her second, Do No Harm, was Thriller of the Month in the Observer. The Scotsman declared that ‘She has got closer to the fractured complexity of their inner lives than most novelists – and certainly most crime writers – manage.’
Currently she is writing a novel whose working title was ‘A Mother, A Daughter and a Paedophile.’ Not a comedy then…
